Kalimat sent out a notice yesterday about the award-winning دجاجة باق بيق—written by Rania Zbib Daher and illustrated by Joelle Achkar—being available for iPhone, iPod, and iPad (here, in the iTunes store) just as CBS news asked: Are eBooks Okay for Small Children?
The article—which quotes Peggy McNamara, chair of general teacher education at Bank Street College of Education—says “yes,” although with certain guidelines:
- An e-reader of any kind should not become an electronic babysitter. Parents and children should experience books together.
- Parents should still do the reading most of the time. If you can turn down the volume on your e-reader and do it yourself, do.
- E- or iBooks should not be a replacement for old-fashioned, turn-the-page, paper picture books.
