Floating Book Fair Set to Arrive in Dubai Jan. 21

Yesterday’s Khaleej Times told about an extraordinary boat on its way to the UAE. Apparently, the MV Logos Hope already has docked in Libya, Egypt, and Lebanon, although I didn’t hear anything about those stops at the time.

Now the Logos Hope—“the world’s largest floating book fair”—is headed for the UAE. It will anchor in Dubai from January 21 to February 6 and in Abu Dhabi from February 7 to 19. The ship carries books in many languages, including Arabic.

It’s difficult to tell exactly which Arabic books the ship is carrying. But in a blogger’s photo of its docking in Tripoli, Libya, one can clearly see many shelves labeled “Arabic Books.”

I also couldn’t find a schedule of UAE events, but:

It [the Logos Hope] usually invites hundreds of school students on board for a special programme designed as educational and cultural performances to be staged at the 400-seat theatre.

Read more about the ship’s plans on the Khaleej Times or on the MV Logos Hope website.
